Sisters in
Crime is an international organization dedicated to supporting authors,
both men and women, in their writing pursuits in the mystery and crime genres.
It was founded in 1986 by a group of women authors in order to advance the
careers of women within the mystery field.
Our chapter, the Los Angeles Chapter, was founded in 1989 and is the largest
of the 48 chapters within the national organization. Our mission (and our
motto) is to leave No Crime Unpublished™.
Membership is available to all who have an interest in crime, mystery and
suspense. We welcome readers, fans, librarians and booksellers, and all who
love the written word.

Sisters in Crime/LA offers its members many benefits!
- Monthly meetings with special guest speakers who are expert in their
field. We also offer our member authors the opportunity to read a passage from
their published work.
- Signings and Panels - we offer published authors the opportunity to sit on
panels at Libraries and other venues and to sign books afterward.
- Seminars - from time to time special seminars are offered on the various
aspects of writing.
- Biannual conference - Every other year, on the odd year, we host a conference,
California Crime Writers Conference (formerly titled No Crime Unpublished).
For information click the “Conference” link.
- Book Festivals – We host a large booth each year at the Los Angeles Times Festival
of Books and the West Hollywood Book Festival. Published authors are given the
opportunity to sign books in our space during these events.
- Anthologies - Sisters in Crime/LA offers its members the opportunity to be
published in an anthology of mystery short stories. Top Publishing, a traditional
press, published our most recent works: Murder on Sunset Blvd and
Landmarked
for Murder. Prior publications include: Murder X 13, Deadly Dozen,
Desserticide and Desserticide II (cookbooks).
- A fun, informative monthly newsletter and a
Yahoo Groups chat site for
staying in touch with members and authors.
- Opportunities to make new friends, network with other authors and create
lasting ties within the mystery writers community.
Our number one goal is to be of benefit to our members. We strive to find new
ways to provide services and outreach. 2009 marks the 20th Anniversary of
Sisters In Crime/LA and we look forward to a year of celebration, promoting the
Sisters In Crime name and mission in our community.
We have a dedicated and unpaid Board of Directors that is truly stepping up
to the plate to make things happen.
Sisters in Crime/LA is a non-profit organization. We rely on membership! The larger we grow,
the more we can accomplish. We would love to welcome you to our family!
